Karate Instructor Accreditation

Karate Instructor Accreditation

The aim of this policy is to ensure that the Australian Karate Federation Inc has in place a system which will enable Karate Instructors to maintain a safe, responsible and high standard of practice, in keeping with current principles and competencies.

The system is designed to provide the following benefits:

  • Instructors will be up-to-date with instruction competencies, delivering a safe, responsible and high standard of instruction to their students/athletes in line with their responsibilities and duty of care as am instructor
  • current contact details will be kept on all instructors for the purpose of improved communication
  • all instructors will hold current first aid certification to ensure a minimum level of competence in dealing with life threatening emergency situations during karate practice
  • status of the accredited instructor will be improved due to their superior knowledge
  • instructors will have an improved and more effective commitment to their instruction if they are AKF Accredited Karate Instructors

Rolling Expiry

A certification with rolling expiry means that its validity is determined by the renewal and/or maintenance of its individual components (e.g. accreditations, elements or practical experience). Each component or requirement within the certification may have its own expiration date, and when that specific component expires, it needs to be renewed or updated to keep the overall certification active.

KIA will therefore expire on the date of the next expiring element.

For example:

  • First Aid will be expiring in 2 years
  • WWCC will be expiring in 6 months
  • Annual KIA renewal will be expiring in 1 year
  • KIA will expire when WWCC expires and when WWCC is renewed the next expiring element will determine the expiry date of KIA

This ensures that certification stays up to date with current standards, without requiring a requalification or retesting for everything at once. It’s like keeping different parts of your knowledge or skills current on a rolling basis.
