The Board of Karate Australia have endorsed the following Selection Criteria for the 2025 Oceania Championship and Cup.
Qualification for the 2025 Senior Oceania Championships
Selected Athletes will compete at a qualification event on Thursday 3 April 2025 prior to the Australian Open.
Athletes have been selected based on the following achievements in 2024:
- Gold, Silver, or Bronze who lost to Gold at 2024 Australian Open, 2024 National Championships or 2024 Oceania Championships.
- Compliance with the National Team Program.

Qualification for the 2025 Oceania Championships
- The two highest-finishing athletes at the 2025 Oceania Qualification Event will qualify to represent Australia at the 2025 Oceania Championships.
- The highest-finishing athlete will be assigned WKF points.
- Where only 2 athletes have been selected there will be no qualification event - highest placed result at Australian Open will be assigned WKF points
- Where only 1 athlete has been selected there will be no qualification event and the Selection Committe will review the eligible nominees for the vacant position.
Qualification for the 2025 Cadet / Junior / U21 Oceania Championships
Eligible nominees will be selected based on accruing points (in-category) at the 2025 Australian Open Championships. The following points allocation will be applied for purpose of selection.
1. Selection of Athletes
- Athletes earn selection points based on their performance at the 2025 Australian Open Championships.
- The athlete with the highest points is selected first and assigned WKF points.
- The athlete with the second highest points is also selected.
2. Points Allocation System

3. Tie-Breaker Rules (if athletes have the same points)
a) the winner of their bout during the elimination phase will be selected.
b) If they didn’t compete against each other, an additional single bout will determine the selection.
4. Final Review
Where a vacant position remains, the Selection Committee will review the eligible nominees.
2025 Oceania Cup Selection Criteria
The 2025 Oceania Cup is an inclusive event open to competitors in the following categories:
- 10/11 years
- 12/13 years
- Veterans
To be eligible for selection in the team representing Australia at the 2025 Oceania Cup, athletes must meet the following criteria:
- Be a member of the 2025 National Squad by Wednesday, 12 March 2025.
- Compete in the 2025 Australian Open.
